Casting Call for Mel O' Drama's production of "The Alto's: A Little Lower Than the Soprano's". --Chicago, 1920's. Big Loui Alto is holding a retirement banquet where he will name his successor to take over the family business. Big Lou's daughter, Luccia is sweet and innocent and desperately and secretly in love with Lou's chauffeur, Johnny. Big's girlfriend, Scarlet has a secret of her own, is vying for the throne and despises Big's nephew, Spats Alto. Spats is a bull-headed screw up, and has his own secrets. Big's lounge singer, Vikki, is a flirtatious philanderer who is constantly entertaining and somewhat of a lush. Big Lou has major plans for his successor but the night doesn't go quite as planned when someone ends up dead and there is a murderer to be found.

Who We Are & What We Do:

Mel O' Drama can be classified as intimate theater. Specifically, we perform murder mystery dinner theater; our emphasis is on comedy and audience participation.

We perform public shows frequently throughout Middle Tennessee.

Casts typically consist of six paid actors, with an even split of male & female roles.

Our scripts are about 40 pages in length -- and only represent about 1/3of an evening's performance.
One third in character adlib entertaining of guests at their tables.
One third in character adlib answering questions during sleuthing.
One third scripted dialogue.

The major difference between regular theater and Mel O' Drama's comedy murder mystery dinner theater is that there is no "4th Wall" between the actors and the guests. In fact, the actors generally eat dinner with the guests, staying in character throughout the entire night. There are no curtains to hide behind!
Who We Need:

Actors who do best in our shows:

Are creative, charismatic and have a passion for theater.
Are outgoing and enjoy mixing with guests.
Can do impromptu entertainment.
Continuously stay in character.
"Think on their feet."
Have a flair for comedy.
Can sing & dance.
When We Need You:

Upcoming Auditions: Sunday, March 18th at 4pm - Nashville Area - Auditioning for "The Alto's: A Little Lower Than the Soprano's".
We generally hold open auditions every two to three months. Please call 801-635-7990 for more info on auditions.
What To Bring:

Prepare a comedic monologue of your choice.
Prepare an upbeat song of your choice. Bring your own CD/MP3 Player Karaoke minus track accompaniment. (Piano accompaniment not always available.)
Bring your résumé if we don't already have one, including a headshot photo that we can keep on file.
Be aware of any possible scheduling conflicts you may have with performance dates -- Filling out a schedule form is part of the audition process.
Some of the actors at Mel O' Drama Theater have been with us for years. We are always bringing in new people to audition so we can expand our resources and offer other actors the unique opportunities we provide. Most of those who have performed with Mel O' Drama Theater have been between 20 and 60 years old. Mel O' Drama Theater is always looking for talented new actors.

Other Information:
Actors will be paid per performance. If you or someone you know feel that you could fit in the position of acting, singing, working with an audience, enjoying performing in different locations, taking part in fine dining with excellent food-while laughing and having fun! Then we want to hear from you! Call or email brittanybandersen@gmail.com to schedule your audition time!
