Yeah, they sure did allow that guy to stay on the stage an awfully long time, I thought. You'd think that as soon as he dropped trou, security would seize him. but no.

12.1 million viewers watched the show last night. That's solid, but it went up against the season premiere of "Modern Family," which just won a bunch of Emmys the other night. Not to mention it's the funniest show on television. They better step it up though because Paula Abdul's last show "Live to Dance" debuted with 10.9 million viewers, but fell significantly the next night and the following weeks.

'X Factor' opens solid, but 'Modern Family' steals the show

Thought this was just okay. It was SO slow and didn't feel like it was that different from the rest of the shows

The differences won't become apparent until the live shows, I'm guessing, with the judges having a stake in their own acts, deciding who gets kicked off etc.

The ratings were hardly solid, it well under performed for a massive new reality show that has had so much hype. It failed to win its second hour (sensible people watched Modern Family). Its demo was under 5.0 which is not great.

I've never been one who cares about ratings. I watch what entertains me. X Factor does that.

algy - The US X-Factor is on ITV2. I think it was last night (Thurs) and is on again tonight (Fri). I haven't seen any of it yet but it's definitely being shown here. :o)

Boobs-same with me. But if the ratings go too low on my favorite shows, they're canceled.

Janey, we must enjoy them while we can. Hopefully, as with Broadway, talk will get people to watch.

I was surprised they didn't haul him off stage right away, but I guess they thought it'd be good tv. The use of the big X logo to cover his junk was kinda funny.

Paula's reaction seemed a bit over-the-top, going out and being all sick and all. It's not like she was sitting there in front of the guy having a meal. I could have understood that a little better. I know that I personally don't wanna look at that when I'm tryin' to eat. No offense, guys!

What I hate seeing more than exhibitionists on the show are the whiners. Geez, it's a competition. When someone gets a "no" vote, they need to hold their chin up, say a simple "thank you for the opportunity," and get the hell off the stage, not stand there crying and begging.

I didn't see tonight's show, but I did watch yesterday's. The burrito maker really surprised me. I also couldn't believe that Paula and Nicole didn't want to put the deli worker through, she was very talented. Thank goodness Nicole changed her mind. I'm actually starting to wish they had kept Cheryl Cole.

Simon should NOT have let Melanie go home! Rachel and Simone are talented, but she WAS WAY BETTER. What the hell was he thinking?!

ETA: Just realized that Melanie is back in the competition. My recording got cut off.

I was surprised Simon didn't keep Caitlin but he kept the girl with the big gap in her teeth. I think he just felt he needed to justify fighting for her in the beginning.

I'll never be convinced that reality shows like this are "reality" I AM convinced though, that "mistakes" like this are programmed into the show to create interest and conversation.

I don't doubt it, Jane.

Never trust Simon Cowell...I can see it now, before the series ends there will be more controversies - the judges/mentors fighting between themselves live on air, voting out quality acts over mediocre, Paula will be reduced to tears at least twice, rumors of backstage tension between the contestants, storm offs, etc.

The whole thing is a contrived circus. I'll still be watching...just with more than a grain of salt.

oh, for sure-I'll keep watching too. It's entertaining! But I'm aware that nothing is a surprise. Before Simon "showed up" at that girl's house to tell her she was still in the running, lights, cameras, sound, craft services, etc. had to be set up. And the whole family had to be assembled. There are union rules, lol!

How about on Survivor when you think they're on some desolate island with no amenities? A few yards away from the contestants are the cameras, producers, directors, lights, catering tables, portable potties, etc. Still fun to watch though.

It really must suck to be Paula when two of your acts in the bottom two. I was surprised to see the Stereo Hogz in jeporady. I was not surprised to see Intensity go, but I did kind of feel soory for them. I think in the next elimination, the judges should say, "The act I want to stay is" instead of "The act I'm sending home is" because the latter sounds harsh.

My cynical take on the show (which I'm enjoying, btw).

OK, it's Simon's show. He mentors the most interesting group-the girls. I'm betting the winner will be one of them because well, it's about Simon! I actually hope that Rachel Crow wins. From the first night I thought she was a real winner. What talent and personality! I noticed they save her for last on the show.

I hate Rachel. She bugs the living shlt out of me for some reason.

When this show first started I was all into it. But the second they started the live performances I lost all interest. None of their song choices are good and everyone who seemed so talented before now bores me to tears. I'm not surprised that the groups are the first to go, I thought that would happen from day one. When people talk about shows like this they talk about the individuals who they love, not groups. The other two will go in the next couple of weeks, I'm sure of that.

As for just voice alone I want Melanie or Drew to win.

Stockard, I think groups are the least interesting for the public. Next, I'd guess the over 30's , then the men, then the women.

I'm not worried about Rachel if she doesn't win. Like AI, they're better off when they don't win. I can only imagine the offers she has already, just waiting til she's done with the showl
