Mary McCallum's SINGLEVILLE To Be Celebrated During Performance at The Next Level 8/24

American Negro Playwright Theatre and SistaStyle Productions invite theater-goers in Nashville to join them in a celebration-on Friday, August 24-of their D.C. Black Theatre Festival win with a special presentation of Mary McCallum's SingleVille, directed by 2010 First Night Honoree Barry Scott.

The celebration kicks off with a reception at 7 p.m. on August 24 at The Next Level, 1008 Charlotte Avenue, with curtain at 8 p.m. Tickets to SingleVille are $10.

SingleVille is described as "a comedic exploration of three women trying to navigate through the thicket of love, singlehood and survival." During its performance at the D.C. Black Theatre Festival, SingleVille was able to take home the "One Act Battle Championship," besting more than 20 other productions in the competition.

"I never imagined that we could take home top honors at the D.C. Black Theatre Festival, especially without the advantage of a home-town audience," McCallum says. "I think this win is a testament to how well audiences relate to the show and the work of our cast members- Molly Breen and Tamiko Robinson, along with our director, Barry Scott. We are proud to represent Nashville and bring home this top honor."

SingleVille is written by 2011 First Night Star Award winner McCallum, who has also penned The 70% Club (New York International Fringe Festival selection and winner of "Best Feature" at the International Black Film Festival of Nashville), Fly, Girl!, Hunger In Paradise and Black Girl Lost (Best New Work Nominee, DC Black Theatre Festival).

SingleVille is under the direction of Barry Scott, who is widely known for his successes as an actor, writer, producer, director, motivational speaker and voice over artist. The cast features: Molly Breen, Tamiko Robinson and the playwright herself.
