Holly Amber stars in Christopher Durang's Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You, opening tonight (May 10) and continuing through May 20. Directed by Ryan Vogel, who does double-duty playing one of Sister Mary Ignatius' troubled former students, the play is presented at BWW Tennessee Theatre Award-winning Out Front on Main, located at 1511 E. Main Street in historic downtown Murfreesboro.

In Durang's dark comedy, Sister Mary Ignatius (Amber), a teaching nun who is much concerned with sin in all of its various forms, delivers a cautionary lecture to her charges. One of them, a precocious little boy namEd Thomas (Michael Hayes), can quote the Ten Commandments on cue, and each time he does so Sister Mary rewards him with a cookie. But when several of her former students turn up, the picture darkens.

One of her former students is a happy mother of an illegitimate child (Anna Matsen); another is a contented homosexual (Ryan T. Daniel); still another has had two abortions (Kelly Northcutt-Hayes); while the other student, now an alcoholic, contemplates suicide (Vogel). Their stories are disturbing-but also very funny-it is quickly apparent that one thing they all have in common is their loathing for Sister Mary and the unyielding dogma which she forced upon them in their formative years. In the end there is mayhem and bloodshed but, with this, the unsettling feeling that, amid the laughter, some devastating truths have been told.
