Beth Henley's MISS FIRECRACKER CONTEST Next Up at Lakewood Theatre Company

Beth Henley’s poignant Southern comedy—The Miss Firecracker Contest—takes the stage of the Lakewood Theatre Company, voted “Best Community Theatre Company” in BroadwayWorld.com’s 2012 Nashville Theatre Awards, beginning Friday, July 20, 2012 and running through Sunday, August 5.

The Miss Firecracker Contest  centers on Carnelle Scott (played by Lauren Moore), a Southern girl trying to salvage her  tarnished reputation as “Miss Hot Tamale” by winning the annual Miss Firecracker contest and leaving sleepy Brookhaven, Mississippi, in a red-hot blaze of glory.

Directed by John Carpenter, board president of Lakewood Theatre, in addition to Moore the cast includes Heather Alexander as odd seamstress Popeye Jackson, Jill Braddock-Watson as former Miss Firecracker Elain Rutledge, Michael Welch as the troubled and charming Delmount Williams, Daniel DeVault and Asa  Ambrister sharing the role of Mac Sam, and Laura Lindsey as pageant coordinator Tessy  Mahoney.

Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.  Tickets are available at www.TicketsNashville.com, or a limited number of reservations are available through the Lakewood box office at (615) 847-0934. Lakewood Theatre is located at  2211 Old Hickory Boulevard in Old Hickory.

An American Sign Language-interpreted show during  the run of The Miss Firecracker Contest is set for Sunday, July 29. For more information on this production and all of Lakewood's 2012 & 2013 season offerings, to to www.lakewoodtheatre.com.
