Lakewood Theatre Company,  voted "Best Community Theatre Company" in BroadwayWorld.com's 2012 Nashville awards, presents William Gibson's The Miracle Worker beginning Friday, October 19 and running through Sunday, November 4.

The Miracle Worker tells the familiar story of Annie Sullivan's determination to bring Helen Keller the gift of language and free her from the isolation of her dark and silent world.  During their journey together, Annie begins to contend with her own emotional barriers.  In the play's powerful finale, Annie manages to push one word into Helen's mind-water-and Helen's mind opens to the flood of language and ideas and the world around her.  In releasing Helen's mind, Annie also frees herself from the prison of her memories of a difficult and painful upbringing, and the loss of her beloved brother Jimmy.

Directed by Heather Alexander, The Miracle Worker features Amanda Smith in the title role of the spirited and stubborn Annie Sullivan, and Zoe Garner as Helen Keller, her deaf-blind pupil struggling both to communicate and to be understood.  The cast also includes Doug Allen and Terra Buschmann as Helen's parents Captain and Kate Keller, Kevin Oziminski as Helen's brother  James, and Jeff Lay as Annie's mentor Dr. Anagnos.

Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.  Tickets can be obtained at www.TicketsNashville.com, or a limited number of reservations are available through the Lakewood box office (615) 847-0934. Lakewood Theatre is located at 2211 Old Hickory Boulevard in Old Hickory.

Lakewood Theatre is proud to include an American Sign Language-interpreted show during  the run of The Miracle Worker as a service to the Deaf/HOH community.  Call the Lakewood Theatre box office at for details on interpreted performances.
